A lot has changed with my office workspace in a year. Here is a picture sometime march 2010:

And here is a picture this september 2011:

It's really cleaned up now, and I prefer it that way.

      • No unnecessary stuffs lying around. I put on the desk what is only needed. If ever I have stuff that hangs around the desk for more than a month that I don't use, then I remove it. It gives me a lot of room to breathe.
      • Removed the stack of books since I usually do my reading at home, where there is less distraction.
      • I only use one monitor now because with my tiling manager Xmonad, I find having the extra monitor distracting. Plus its better since there's lesser light on my face.
      • I now have less buttons on my ubuntu panel, since I now use Kupfer which makes the need for clicking things disappear.
      • I only have one panel left on my ubuntu, the one on top, for the notifications area. The one at the bottom I don't need anymore since I organized my desktop into workspaces so I dont have to check the bottom panel to look for a certain program.

I really like how it's all cleaned up. Having this kind of workspace really helps me focus and keeps distraction away.

      Go to sleep

I'm currently reading Rework from 37 signals, and when I clicked next and saw this picture, I couldn't help but laugh at myself. This is one of the lessons I had to learn the hard way. If you're tired, Go To Sleep Or Else You'll Regret It. And I have a lot of these regrets in my closet to help remind me to never ever lose sleep when I'm hard at work.

Because when we lose sleep, we lose energy. When we lose our energy, we lose our game. When we lose our game, we start to suck. And we don't want sucky output.

If we really want to finish something as fast as possible, then we should be in the best shape to do it. So get some sleep. :)

"Sometimes it's easy to lose interest, but you have to remember why you're doing what you're doing in the first place. It's passion that got you started, so use it to keep you moving." -got this from a comment at forrst.com (he's still in high school)

And it's so true, it's so easy to give up. What with all the fun things you could be doing instead of chasing some dream. Why waste time doing stuff that's boring and doesn't make sense to other people but you?

And it's tiring. It takes up a lot of you. And you get a ton of negativity around, a lot of discouragement. Sometimes it seems like it doesn't make sense anymore.

      So why go on?

      Because you want to.
